SACO was delighted to be invited by Manulife Real Estate to collaborate with artist and designer Luftwerk to illuminate Occurrence of Light, a public art commission located along the periphery of the vibrant Manulife Calgary office tower. Inspired by Canada’s Aurora Borealis, the sculptural light installation is a three-dimensional, digital artwork that blends contemporary art, science and technology.
SACO illuminated Occurrence of Light using its state-of-the-art V-Stick S LED Video Light fixtures, which were embedded in custom-made, mirrored stainless steel blades. The piece consists of 76 programmable SACO Shockwave V-Stick vertical blades with heights of 5ft to 13ft, which reflect phenomena mimicking the amorphous structure of the cosmic event. The changing colors and activity are identified between the artist and the staff of Natural Resources Canada.
The V-Stick product was carefully selected, not only for its superior brightness and clarity that can easily be seen by day and night, but also for its versatility, durability and ability to withstand the extreme weather conditions associated to Alberta. With the power to connect to live-streaming data, SACO’s video light fixtures enable the lighting designer to broadcast live content, change colors, directional movement, frequency and more. The Occurrence of Light installation uses SACO’s proprietary high-speed V -Stream video communication protocol, which provides the most depth of color.
